HONOLULU, HAWAII –
Through a partnership with Goodwill Hawaii, four Bank of Hawaii branches on Oahu will help qualified taxpayers prepare their 2016 tax returns through the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Bank of Hawaii volunteers will be available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the following locations to provide free basic income tax return preparation, through electronic filing, for qualified individuals and families who earned $54,000 or less in 2016, and who do not own their own home or business:
- Feb. 8, 9, 10
Main Banking Center
- Feb. 16 and 17
- Feb. 15
- Feb. 21 and 22
Each year, Bank of Hawaii provides certified tax preparers to VITA sites throughout Oahu, including Goodwill Hawaii and the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. VITA volunteers undergo free training to become IRS-certified tax preparers. In 2016, 24 IRS-certified bank volunteers prepared 372 tax returns, resulting in $446,000 in refunds for individuals and families.
Goodwill Hawaii is currently accepting appointments for Bank of Hawaii’s Main Branch and Waiakamilo Branch. Qualified taxpayers may sign up for a 45-minute appointment through Goodwill Hawaii’ website at: http://www.higoodwill.org/goodwill-programs/community-services/free-tax-preparation-services or call (808) 836-0313.
