Therese M. Dickerson of Bank of Hawaii First in State to Earn CPLP Credential from the ASTD Certification Institute

Honolulu, Hawaii (April 25, 2007) - Bank of Hawaii is pleased to announce that Therese M. Dickerson, vice president and human resources manager of the Leadership and Employee Development Department, is the first in the state to earn the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP) credential from the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) Certification Institute.  Nationwide, 478 individuals hold the CPLP certification.

Dickerson earned CPLP certification by successfully passing a knowledge-based examination and demonstrating industry-related experience and knowledge required by the ASTD.  The certification process focuses on an overall understanding of nine areas of expertise for workplace learning and performance which include:  Designing Learning; Improving Human Performance; Delivering Training; Measuring and Evaluating; Facilitating Organizational Change; Managing the Learning Function; Coaching; Managing Organizational Knowledge; and Career Planning and Talent Management. 

Dickerson is responsible for managing the leadership assessment/development system and programs, designing and developing leadership and professional skills programs, creating related courses and conducting training and performance improvement needs analyses.  Dickerson joined the bank in 1997 and has held positions as training specialist and assistant human resources manager at the bank.

A graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dickerson holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications and has earned a master’s degree in communications management from the University of Southern California.  She is a certified instructional designer and a member of the American Society for Training and Development.
