HONOLULU, HAWAII – Bank of Hawaii hosted its 4th Annual Charity Walk today at Kapiolani Park to support nonprofit organizations that work to protect and nurture Hawaii’s children. More than 1,000 employees and their family members participated in the Charity Walk, which raised a total of $111,000 in donations for Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, Parents And Children Together (PACT), and Special Olympics Hawaii.
This year’s theme for the Charity Walk was “Step Up to Support Hawaii’s Keiki,” and BOH employees voted earlier in the year to choose the organizations they wanted to help.
David Nakada, executive director of Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, said, “These funds will enable us to continue providing services to over 6,000 youth this year, the majority of whom reside in some of the most vulnerable neighborhoods in Hawaii.”
Ruthann Quitiquit, president and CEO of PACT, said, “Bank of Hawaii's Charity Walk is just one example of Bankoh going the extra mile to reach out to the community to raise much needed funds and get the word out about all the good PACT and the other nonprofits do for Hawaii's people.”
Nancy Bottelo, president and CEO of Special Olympics Hawaii, said, “The funds received from the Charity Walk will directly help us continue programs for students with intellectual disabilities. The bank’s generosity will be seen on the softball fields, basketball courts and soccer fields…and will be felt in the hearts and homes of those we serve forever.”
BOH executives, along with board members from the charities, manned the breakfast tent to serve the walkers with scrambled eggs, steamed rice, link sausage, and orange juice. Special Olympics Hawaii athletes were stationed along the 1.8 mile course to cheer on walkers. Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii also provided dance entertainment after the walk.
Over its four-year history, the Bank of Hawaii Charity Walk has raised more than $450,000 to help our communities. More information about the Bank of Hawaii Charity Walk can be found at www.boh.com/charitywalk.
