About Apple Pay
Use Apple Pay with iPhone to pay in stores without swiping your cards and in apps without entering payment and contact information. Just pay with a single touch of your ﬁnger using Touch ID.
With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual Bank of Hawaii consumer debit card number and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® number, when you add your card(s) a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored. And when you make a purchase, the Device Account Number alongside a transaction-speciﬁc dynamic security code is used to process your payment. So your actual card numbers are never shared by Apple® with merchants or transmitted with payments. In addition, paying with Apple Pay is private, as the cashier never sees your name, card numbers or security codes.
1. What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a service that will allow you to pay for your purchases with your iPhone at participating merchants by holding your iPhone near a contactless reader. You’ll also be able to pay through certain apps.
2. Which Bank of Hawaii cards can I use for Apple Pay?
You will be able to use Apple Pay with Bank of Hawaii consumer debit cards issued in the state of Hawaii and the Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard®.
3. What are the advantages of paying with my card using Apple Pay?
There are several advantages to using Apple Pay. When you use Apple Pay, your Bank of Hawaii card number won’t be stored on your phone or given to the merchant. A unique digital code will be created specifically for that device.
4. How will my privacy and personal information be protected?
Since Apple Pay won’t store your debit card number nor your Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® number on the device, your name, card number and security code are not revealed to merchants.
5. Which devices will have access to Apple Pay?
Apple Pay will require an iPhone or Apple Watch® to work at participating stores. You may also use the iPhone, iPad®, and Apple Watch to make in-app purchases. While Apple is one of the first to make use of digital account numbers to enable secure mobile payments, digital account numbers will likely become available on additional connected devices in the future.
6. How do I add my Bank of Hawaii debit card and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® to Apple Pay?
The Wallet app stores your debit card and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® for use with Apple Pay. Wallet already stores boarding passes, tickets, coupons, and now it can store your debit card and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® information as well.
If the card you’d like to use with Apple Pay is already on file in iTunes, you can quickly add it to Wallet by opening Wallet and entering the three digit card security code from the back of your card.
To add a new card into Wallet, go into Settings, open Wallet & Apple Pay, and select “Add Credit or Debit Card.” On the iPhone, you can also open the Wallet app directly, then swipe down and tap the plus (+) sign. From there, you may use your phone’s camera to instantly capture your debit card and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® information or follow the instructions to add your card data manually. The card you had stored in iTunes is your default payment card, but you have the option of switching it to another debit card or credit card in Settings.
Once your card is loaded successfully, a card image similar to your actual card will appear in Wallet along with a message saying that your card is ready for Apple Pay. You'll also receive a confirmation enrollment email.

7. How can I change my default card to my Bank of Hawaii debit card or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard®?
The first card you add to Wallet automatically becomes your default card. This is the card that will appear when you use Apple Pay at a contactless payment reader when checking out. To change your default card to your Bank of Hawaii debit card or your Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard®: (1) go to Settings, (2) select Wallet & Apple Pay, (3) tap your Bank of Hawaii debit card or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard®.
To change your default card to your Bank of Hawaii debit card or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® right before making a purchase, follow these instructions. As you hold your Apple Pay device over the contactless payment terminal, your default card will be displayed at the top of the screen and your other cards will appear stacked at the bottom. If you would like to use your Bank of Hawaii debit card or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® as your default card to make the purchase, simply tap on the stack of cards at the bottom of the screen to view your other cards. Then select your Bank of Hawaii debit card or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® to pay with, and use your fingerprint or passcode to complete the purchase. If your card does not appear in the stack of cards, it means the card has not yet been loaded to Wallet.
8. How do I remove a card from Apple Pay?
To remove a card from Apple Pay, simply select the card in Wallet and click on the Wallet info icon in the bottom corner to view the back of the card. Scroll to the bottom to find the “remove card” option. After deleting, you can re-add this card to Apple Pay at any time.
9. How does the transaction process work?
To initiate an in-store transaction using Apple Pay, hold your iPhone about an inch from the merchant’s contactless reader. The digital account information stored on the device will be transmitted directly to the contactless reader. To complete the transaction, gently press your finger against the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on your iPhone. Your fingerprint is used to make sure that you are authorized to complete the transaction. Apple Pay can also be used for in-app purchases on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Again, you use the fingerprint scanner on your device to verify your purchase.
10. Do I need to be connected to the internet?
For in-store contactless payments, you do not need to be connected to the internet.
11. Will I be able to opt out of Apple Pay at any time?
Adding your debit cards and/or Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite MasterCard® to Apple Pay is your choice; you can add or remove any of your cards when needed. You should always remove your card(s) before allowing someone else to use your iPhone.
12. What merchants will be participating?
You’ll be able to use Apple Pay at more than 220,000 locations. For a complete list of stores and apps compatible with Apple Pay, visit apple.com/apple-pay.
13. What if my Apple device is lost or stolen?
If your Apple device is lost or stolen, use “Find My Apple Device” to quickly suspend or remove your digital account numbers from the respective device.
14. If I sell or give my Apple device to someone else, what will happen to the digital account information in the device?
When selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, be sure to delete all digital accounts in Apple Pay. Alternatively, you may reset your phone to factory settings, which will also remove all digital accounts.
15. If I lose my Apple device and if someone starts using it to make purchases, am I liable for those purchases?
Whether you use a digital account number or a physical card, you are protected against fraudulent transactions.
