Small businesses help Hawaii bloom—that’s why Bank of Hawaii has collaborated with Mana Up, a local accelerator initiative. This collaboration aims to help Hawaii’s entrepreneurs grow and succeed, with an overall mission to diversify the local economy for generations to come.

Together, we’re helping propel local companies to the next level through strategic programs, including an executive mentorship program and series, that spotlight entrepreneur stories and bring more visibility to the vibrancy local businesses create in our community.

Hawaii in Bloom: Sweet Land Farm

At Sweet Land Farm, they believe that the most magical ingredient for delicious cheese starts with the land. Verdant soil and wide-open pasture are the foundation for their healthy goats, which create outstanding fresh milk and award-winning cheeses. It’s so pure and simple that Sweet Land Farm’s featured Goat Milk Caramel lists only two ingredients on its label: goat milk and pure cane sugar.

What started as Emma McCulley’s college dream, Sweet Land Farm on Oahu’s North Shore, has become a thriving goat farm and a go-to destination for cheese-lovers. It’s also an integral part of Hawaii's sustainable agriculture movement to achieve food security in our islands.

Sweet Land Farm exemplifies sustainability through a multifaceted approach by cultivating their crops to feed their goats, collaborating with neighboring farmers to minimize reliance on mainland shipments, and prioritizing homegrown agriculture. They not only support local economies, but also reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transport, embodying a commitment to environmental responsibility.

Emma has some proven advice for those considering starting their own entrepreneurial journey: “Take your risks. Take your ideas to go forward with—and go for it. Follow your dreams, hard works pays off.” She also credits her family saying, “They’ve helped me so much on this journey. I get emotional just thinking about it because we’re so close. With the help they’ve given to me and the farm, it’s truly special.”
