How do I activate my debit card?

Activating your debit card is quick and easy! You can activate your debit card using our mobile app or by calling 1-877-353-0956 and following the prompts.

When will my debit card arrive?

Your debit card will typically arrive within 5-8 business days after account open date or ordering a replacement card.

Can I get access to use my debit card before it arrives?

Yes, if you have an Apple phone (iOS device), you can start using your card right away. Just log into your Bank of Hawaii mobile app and add your debit card to Apple Pay or your digital wallet with a few taps:

  1. Log into the Bank of Hawaii Mobile and Online banking app
  2. Select "Cards"
  3. Select "Add to Apple Wallet" and follow the prompts to add your card

Note: Apple Pay is not available in Guam, Saipan and Palau.

Am I protected if my debit card is lost or stolen?

Yes. Visa debit cards include Visaʻs Zero Liability Protection*, which means you won’t be held responsible for unauthorized transactions when they're reported promptly, subject to certain limitations.

Can I control how my debit card is used?

Yes. You can manage spending limits and alerts, and control when and where your debit card is used through the mobile app or online banking.

Where can I use my Visa debit card?

You can use your Visa debit card anywhere Visa is accepted – at millions of locations worldwide, including in-store and online.

Does money come directly from my checking account when I pay?

Yes. Debit card purchases are deducted directly from your linked checking account at the time of purchase.

How do I add my card to my Digital Wallet?

Apple Wallet
  1. If you have an Apple phone (iOS device), you can start using your card right away. Just log into your Bank of Hawaii mobile app and add your debit card to Apple Pay or your digital wallet with a few taps:Log into the Bank of Hawaii Mobile and Online banking app
  2. Select "Cards"
  3. Select "Add to Apple Wallet" and follow the prompts to add your card

Note: Apple Pay is not available in Guam, Saipan and Palau. 

Or you may add your card manually to your Apple Wallet by following these steps:

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone
  2. Tap the plus (+) symbol in the top right corner
  3. Select "Debit or Credit Card" and tap "Continue"
  4. Scan your card using your iPhone's camera, bring your card close to your phone or enter the card details manually depending on your type of phone
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your card with your bank. This might involve receiving a verification code via text or email
  6. Once verified, your card will be added to your Apple Wallet, and you can start using it with Apple Pay
Google Wallet
  1. Open the Google Wallet app on your phone
  2. Tap "Add to Wallet" or the plus (+) symbol at the bottom right corner
  3. Select "Payment card" and then "New credit or debit card"
  4. Enter your card details manually, use your phone's camera to scan the card or bring your card close to your phone depending on your type of phone
  5. Tap "Save and continue" and read the issuer terms
  6. Accept the terms and follow any additional verification steps required by your bank
  7. Once verified, your card will be added to Google Wallet, and you can use it for contactless payments
Samsung Wallet
  1. Open the Samsung Wallet app on your phone
  2. Tap "Add" or the plus (+) symbol at the bottom right corner. Select "Payment cards". Select "Add credit or debit card"
  3. Enter your card details manually, use your phone's camera to scan the card or bring your card close to your phone depending on your type of phone
  1. Tap "Save and continue" and read the issuer terms.
  2. Accept the terms and follow any additional verification steps required by your bank

What is my debit card PIN?

Setting and managing your PIN is easy using the “Manage my PIN” feature in the “Cards” section of the  Bank of Hawaii Mobile App.

You may also set your PIN while activating your debit card through our automated system, by calling 1-877-353-0956.

If you have already activated your debit card and not set a PIN, you may request a PIN be mailed to you by contacting our Customer Service team.
