Bank of Hawaii Begins Next Phase of “Branch of Tomorrow”
HONOLULU, HAWAII
January 25th, 2021
Bank of Hawaii will reopen six additional branches across Hawaii as part of the next phase of its “Branch of Tomorrow” initiative. The branches include Hanapepe and Kapaa on Kauai and four grocery store locations. In addition to Maui Lani Branch at Safeway, which reopened today, Jan. 25, Beretania and Ewa Beach branches at Safeway on Oahu, and Puainako Branch at KTA Super Store on Hawaii Island, will all reopen on Monday, Feb. 22. Employees at in-store locations will be equipped to support customers while complying with social distancing requirements.
Additionally, Bank of Hawaii’s 12 remaining in-store branches will remain permanently closed. Customer behavior has dramatically changed, with in-person branch transactions declining substantially from pre-COVID levels while digital banking has proliferated. A growing shift toward mobile and online platforms, card usage, and digital payment options have been accelerated by the pandemic.
“As an essential business, we’re fully committed to serving our community and proactively responding to customers’ evolving needs through a variety of options and under a variety of circumstances,” said Peter Ho, Bank of Hawaii chairman, president and CEO.
Bank of Hawaii continues to invest in its “Branch of Tomorrow” concept with three new projects in the works: Mililani Branch scheduled for March, Waialae-Kahala Branch scheduled for April, and a new Hilo Branch scheduled to open in the fourth quarter. The format provides customers an open, flexible floor plan to discuss advanced banking needs and digital conveniences, such as easy-deposit ATMs with Cardless Cash and free Wi-Fi. A fourth in-store branch is scheduled to open in late April/early May when construction of a new branch at the Safeway in Kona is complete.
