A wire transfer is an electronic method of transferring funds between individuals or entities through financial institutions. Domestic wire transfers within the United States are typically processed through the Federal Reserve Bank’s Fedwire Funds Service, which provides real-time gross settlement. International wire transfers are facilitated using the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) network, which enables secure messaging between banks to coordinate the transfer of funds.

To send a wire you must have a Bank of Hawaii checking or savings account.
Wire transactions will not be accepted over the phone and generally must be completed in-person at a Bank of Hawaii location. Business customers with access to our Bankoh Business Connections platform can complete wires online.

Correct information should be provided by the beneficiary and validated by the sender to avoid delays in crediting the beneficiary’s account. Incorrect wire information may lead to the return of the wire transaction minus any intermediary bank fees and loss due to exchange rates.

A wire transfer cannot be canceled once Bank of Hawaii has executed it. The funds are transferred immediately upon execution and although we may attempt to assist you with the recall of an Executed Payment Order, we may not be able to recover the funds on your behalf. Do not wire funds to people or businesses you are not familiar with, especially if you have been asked to do so by a suspicious or unexpected phone call, text, or email.

An ABA routing number is a 9-digit code used in the United States to identify a financial institution.
A SWIFT BIC code is an international standard for identifying financial institutions worldwide when making international wire transfers. SWIFT BIC codes are usually 8–11 characters long.
An IBAN is a standardized international number system used to identify banks across borders, mainly in Europe and other parts of the world. The United States does not use IBANs. U.S. banks use routing numbers and SWIFT codes.
