Bank of Hawai‘i is named on a national ranking of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2026” by Newsweek. A total of 1,000 U.S. companies are listed. Bank of Hawai‘i is one of 24 banks nationwide to be recognized and the only company in the state of Hawai‘i to receive the accolade. The ranking was published by Newsweek on July 16 and can be found here.

“We are humbled to be the only company in Hawai‘i named to Newsweek’s list. It speaks to a culture that puts people first and is especially meaningful because it reflects the voices of our own teammates. It affirms that the family-friendly benefits we’ve built are truly making a difference in the lives of our employees, and we remain committed to fostering a supportive workplace where parents and families can thrive,” said Sharlene Ginoza-Lee, chief people officer at Bank of Hawai‘i.

Bank of Hawai‘i continues to provide a variety of family-friendly benefits/programs, such as its paid parental leave and the Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation Scholarship.

  • Bank of Hawai‘i’s paid parental leave provides 4-6 weeks of paid time off, depending on years of service. Employees may use the time during the first 12 months of welcoming a new baby, adoption or foster care placement; and for added flexibility, the time does not need to be used all at once.
  • Now in its 12th year, the Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation Scholarship offers financial assistance to college-bound children and grandchildren of bank employees. Since the program’s inception in January 2014, Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation has awarded 317 scholarships totaling $1,106,000 through its program administrator Hawai‘i Community Foundation.

Newsweek partnered with Plant-A Insights Group, a market research firm, to compile its fourth list of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2026.” The comprehensive study combines a large-scale national survey, extensive desk research, and third-party data to identify organizations with more than 1,000 employees that provide exceptional workplaces for parents. The national survey was conducted between April 2025 and October 2025, gathering company reviews from more than 100,000 working parents, which provided insights and metrics including backup childcare, paid family leave policies exceeding federal minimums, adoption assistance programs, employer-contributed flexible spending accounts, and subsidized cryopreservation benefits.

Additionally, results from three previous studies conducted between 2022 and 2024 have been incorporated into the overall findings with a reduced weight. In total, more than 300,000 working parents were surveyed between 2022 and 2025, making America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families 2026 one of the nation’s largest independent employee studies focused on working families.
