Bank of Hawaii Thanks Employee Who Embodies the Aloha Spirit
HONOLULU, HAWAII
April 10th, 2019
He may be from New York City, but no one embodies the “Aloha Spirit” like Frank Scarpinito. From the moment anyone walks through the doors of Bank of Hawaii’s Main Branch, Frank’s genuine personality and gracious charm are apparent. He welcomes each customer with a broad smile and makes everyone feel as though they matter, like their needs are important. Because, to him, they do and they are.
Frank Scarpinito has served as Bank of Hawaii’s Main Branch Concierge for nearly 14 years. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Frank made Hawaii his second home, and BOH counted its blessings when he decided to join its team in September 2005. Now that it’s time for him to retire, he has decided to return to New York taking with him memories of Hawaii and the deep connections he’s made in the local community and at Bank of Hawaii. Frank’s scheduled last day at Bank of Hawaii is Thursday, April 11.
Bank of Hawaii released a video, which captured Frank’s surprise farewell celebration. After being greeted by nearly 200 of his fellow Bankoh employees with hugs and lei, Frank is surprised by BOH Chairman, President and CEO Peter Ho who thanked him for his exemplary service and presented him with special gifts.
After presenting Frank with a framed photo of him and his friends and colleagues at Bank of Hawaii’s Main Branch, Ho remarked, “We wanted to thank Frank for his many years of service, and rather than just saying goodbye, we’re sending him off in style on a first class Hawaiian Airlines flight to New York City.” Bank of Hawaii has also coordinated car service to take Frank to the airport and gifted him with a custom-engraved TUMI carry-on bag. In addition, to keep him busy in his retirement, the bank gave Frank 100,000 HawaiianMiles.
“Frank leaves a unique impression on everyone he meets,” continued Ho. “Every encounter with him is special. His infectious personality and warm sense of humor stick with you. Anytime you have a conversation with Frank, you walk away with a smile. An employee like Frank comes along once in a lifetime. To have someone who represents the company so well in every aspect is invaluable, and we are grateful for the positive, lasting impact he has made with our customers and teammates.”
Many describe Frank as a ray of sunshine and a delight to be around. Frank’s sincere thoughtfulness is evident in every interaction he has. BOH customer, Bob Corboy, who came out to help celebrate him, said it best, “There simply aren’t any others like Frank. Not only does he know his stuff, he’s approachable, he listens and he’s always helpful. Frank is more than a concierge at my bank; he’s a friend.” It’s not often you find people like Frank in the world. And when you do, you are not likely to forget them. While Bank of Hawaii wishes Frank a fond farewell as he moves on to the next chapter of his life, it’s not goodbye, but a hui hou—until we meet again.
