Direct Deposit, Mobile Deposit and ATM Deposit

Receiving checks is always fun. It’s even better when those funds are available in your account. Get your money fast without having to make an extra trip to the bank.

Direct Deposit

Whether it’s a monthly government check or your first paycheck, direct deposit is the easiest and fastest way to get paid.  You’ll no longer have to worry about losing your paper check, and you’ll get same day access to your funds without even stepping foot in a branch.

How to use Direct Deposit

For payroll checks:

  • Check with your company’s payroll office to see if you can sign up through an online portal or another method.

For checks issued by the U.S. Treasury:

  1. Enroll online at fiscal.treasury.go/GoDirect
  2. Complete and return the FS Form 1200 from fiscal.treasury.gov/forms.html

Mobile Deposit

With Mobile Deposit, you can deposit your checks at your convenience, whether you’re out and about or relaxing at home. Your deposit will generally be available for debits posting on the Business Day of your deposit.

How to use mobile deposit

Making a deposit can be done in a few simple steps:

  1. Add “For BOH Mobile Deposit Only and sign the back of your check.
  2. Snap pictures of the front and back of your check.
  3. Select your deposit account and enter the amount.
  4. Send your deposit.

Once you receive an email confirmation that your deposit was “Approved;” you may go ahead and destroy the check.

How to make a deposit at an ATM

  • Insert Bank of Hawaii debit card and enter your pin 
  • Select deposit, and choose deposit type (check or cash) 
  • Confirm funds availability and endorse check(s)
  • Insert up to 30 checks or bills at once 
  • Confirm deposit and you're done

Direct Deposit

Funds will be automatically deposited and immediately available for use on your scheduled paydays.

Mobile Deposit

Helpful hint:
When possible, make mobile deposits by 5:00 pm HST (12 noon Palau, 1 pm Guam/Saipan) on business days for quickest access to funds.

Funds will generally be available for debits posting on the Business Day of your deposit.

Ex. If you deposit a check on Monday morning at 8 am, it will be available for use on Tuesday.

Deposit at an ATM

Helpful hint:
When possible, make deposits by 6 pm HST (1 p.m. Palau, 2 p.m. Guam/Saipan) on business days (Monday-Friday, except U.S. Federal holidays) for quickest access to funds.

Cash Deposits

Before 6 pm: full amount is reflected in the available balance and credited to your account that night.

After 6 pm: amount is processed the next business day

Ex. If you deposit $400 cash in the ATM on Monday at 2 pm, full amount will be available for use immediately. 

Ex. If you deposit $400 cash in the ATM on Monday at 7 pm, the full amount will be available for debit transactions immediately, but will not be able to cover check or ACH debit transactions that may come through on Monday.

Check Deposits

Before 6 pm: Up to $225 of credit (per card per day) is immediately reflected in your available balance and the remainder is credited that night to your account.

After 6 pm: Up to $225 of credit is immediately reflected in your available balance and the remainder is credited the following night to your account.

Ex. If you deposit $400 worth of checks in the ATM on Monday at 2 pm, $225 will be available for use immediately.  The remaining $175 will be available on Tuesday. 

Ex. If you deposit $400 worth of checks in the ATM on Monday at 7 pm, $225 will be available for use immediately.  The remaining $175 will be available on Wednesday.
