More About Dave

Dave is a Senior Fellow with the Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurs, providing expert family enterprise support to clients.

Dave is a thought leader and consultant on topics surrounding generational wealth and the complexities of multi-generational family businesses.  His professional mission is to “Preserve Families and Perpetuate Businesses.”  In his role with Bank of Hawaii, Dave will consult with families to develop family meetings, prepare the rising generation, develop family business continuity plans, and train bankers to serve multi-generational families of wealth.

Prior to this role, Dave was the Director of the Drucker School’s Global Family Business Institute. Before that, he spent nearly 5 years developing the Family Dynamics Program at Wells Fargo Private Bank. While there, he trained over 2,500 of their top advisors to incorporate the non-financial components of generational business and wealth continuity. Before Wells Fargo, he founded a family business consulting firm called Advising Generations and served on the faculty at The University of Nebraska where he established their family business program.

Specht is a two-time author. His latest book is called, “The Family Business Whisperer.” He’s also the creator of the Generational Wealth Masterclass and the Family Business Masterclass. He is happily married and has 6 children. Dave played basketball at BYU-Hawaii and ultimately graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.  He also received a Master’s Degree in Tax and Financial Planning from San Diego State University.
