Saturday, November 04, 2017

Bank of Hawaii announced the winning school of its 2017 “Hawaiimoji Blitz Championship Playoffs” during the OIA championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4. Bank of Hawaii presented a check for $10,000 to Moanalua High School, whose Hawaiimoji logo sticker was shared 16,433,912 times from Oct. 15 to 27. Joel Kawachi, athletic director at Moanalua High School accepted the check.

“Fans and athletes displayed an overwhelmingly positive response to the Hawaiimoji Blitz Contest, using the OIA logo stickers over 38 million times throughout the regular and playoff seasons,” said Peter Ho, President, Chairman and CEO of Bank of Hawaii. “Every school received support for their athletic department, and it was wonderful to celebrate the fans, OIA coaches and athletes, who dedicate so much time and effort into their sport.”

Bank of Hawaii’s most recent update to its popular Hawaiimoji app included 22 OIA high school logos created to rally support for local schools and their student-athletes. The Hawaiimoji Blitz Contest selected two teams to compete each week during the regular varsity football season. The school displaying the highest usage of its logo sticker through the Hawaiimoji app in iMessage was awarded $2,000 from Bank of Hawaii and qualified for the $10,000 Hawaiimoji Blitz Championship Playoffs. The runner-up received $500 and qualified to compete in the playoff consolation bracket for a prize of $2,500. The consolation prize winner, McKinley High School, won $2,500 for their athletic department. Their Hawaiimoji logo was shared 1,785,631 times during the playoffs.

Committed to supporting the young student athletes of Hawaii, Bank of Hawaii has awarded a total of $40,000 through its Hawaiimoji Blitz Contest.

“We are not only proud of how each school excitedly embraced our social media competition, but also of the support shown by their communities.” said Peter Ho. “It is inspiring how the people of Hawaii uphold the tradition of high school sports and display ardent and unwavering commitment to their teams.”

Hawaiimoji is a one-stop app for local stickers—spam musubi, the humuhumunukunukuapua‘a, loco moco, and the shaka are just some of the emoji included in the 63 sticker selection. Bank of Hawaii’s Hawaiimoji is currently available for free in the iPhone App Store and may be downloaded through Google Play for Android users.
