Wayne Y. Hamano Promoted to Vice Chair at Bank of Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii (December 22, 2008) - Bank of Hawaii Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Al Landon announced the promotion of Wayne Y. Hamano to vice chair and chief commercial officer.  

Hamano, who is currently senior executive vice president and chief commercial officer, is responsible for overseeing Hawaii Commercial Banking Division, Corporate Banking, Leasing, Dealer Commercial Services, Dealer Indirect Lending, Commercial Real Estate Loan Division and TRIAD Insurance Agency, Inc., a bank subsidiary.  He will add responsibility for the bank’s Pacific Islands Division, which includes operations in Guam, Saipan, Palau and American Samoa.  He has served as a member of the bank’s Managing Committee since 2006. 

Landon said, “Wayne is highly regarded by his peers and well respected within the community.  He has extensive banking experience coupled with great leadership ability that has contributed significantly toward our solid financial performance.”   

Hamano joined the bank in 1977 as a commercial credit analyst.  He left in 1987 to pursue an opportunity to manage a small local business, and returned in 1993 to continue his career in the Corporate Hawaii Division and Special Assets Department. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Hawaii and is a graduate of the University of Washington’s Pacific Coast Banking School.  He is currently on the board of directors of the Metro YMCA and a member of its finance committee.  He is also on the board of directors of The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.  In addition, he serves as a member of the University of Hawaii-Hilo’s Advisory Board.
