HONOLULU, HAWAII – More than 2,000 Bank of Hawaii employees and their families started their morning with a walk around the Honolulu Zoo today for the seventh annual Bank of Hawaii Community Walk. Employees selected the walk’s beneficiaries, and then raised a total of $105,636 in donations that will be equally divided among EPIC ‘Ohana, Lanakila Pacific and YMCA of Honolulu.
Laurie Tochiki, president and CEO of EPIC ‘Ohana, Inc., said, “We are thrilled and grateful to be a part of this year’s Bank of Hawaii Community Walk. We will use this generous gift to help young people in Hawaii who have been in foster care through the Hawaii Youth Opportunity Initiative to give them the same building blocks for success in life as their peers in intact families.”
Marian Tsuji, president and CEO of Lanakila Pacific, said, “These donations in support of Lanakila Meals on Wheels will directly help deliver thousands of meals to hundreds of our elderly neighbors. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you for caring for our kupuna.”
Michael Broderick, president and CEO of YMCA of Honolulu, said, “Thanks to the generosity of Bank of Hawaii employees, we’ll be able to provide critical funding for the YMCA’s teen leadership and at-risk programs, childhood obesity intervention initiative, senior programs, as well as financial assistance for youth to go to YMCA Camp Erdman resident camps.”
Bank of Hawaii created its annual Community Walk in 2007 as a way to support nonprofit organizations that might not have the resources or infrastructure to conduct their own fundraising walks. Over its seven-year history, Bank of Hawaii employees have raised more than $925,000 to help community organizations.
The Community Walk is another example of Bank of Hawaii’s commitment to improving the quality of life and wellbeing in the communities it serves. More information about the Bank of Hawaii Community Walk can be found at www.boh.com/community.
