Bank of Hawaii Strengthening Managing Committee

Honolulu, Hawaii (September 24, 2007) - Bank of Hawaii Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Al Landon announced key personnel appointments that further integrate the bank’s management team and expand the bank’s Managing Committee.     

“These appointments and promotions recognize the experience and accomplishments of our senior leaders,” said Landon.  “These officers have contributed to Bank of Hawaii’s strong financial performance.  We look forward to their ongoing contributions.”    

Peter S. Ho, vice chairman and chief banking officer, will add responsibility for Retail Banking in addition to his current responsibilities for Commercial Banking and Investment Services.   He is a member of the bank’s Managing Committee and its Board of Directors.  Ho will now direct all revenue-generating banking functions. 

Ho joined the bank in 1993, after beginning his banking career in New York.  Subsequently, he managed several commercial banking units and in 2003 he assumed responsibility for the bank’s Hawaii Commercial Banking Group.  In 2004 he assumed responsibility for the bank’s Investment Services Group, and later was named chief banking officer. 

A native of Honolulu, Ho serves on the boards of several community organizations including Hawaii Pacific University, Hanahauoli School, the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross, The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, Special Olympics of Hawaii, the Historic Hawaii Foundation, the Hawaii Community Foundation, Oceanic Institute, and University of Hawaii-Ahahui Koa Anuenue.  

Retail banking units previously reported to Vice Chairman Dave Thomas, who expects to leave the bank in the near future, having completed his work of refocusing the bank’s retail business on its core markets. 

Shelley Thompson, senior executive vice president & chief fiduciary officer, has been promoted to vice chairman and will have overall responsibility for Investment Services.  The Investment Services Group includes the bank’s trust, private client, asset management, institutional services, brokerage, and retirement plan services businesses. 

Thompson, who is a member of the bank’s Managing Committee, has more than 20 years of trust and wealth management experience.  Prior to joining Bank of Hawaii in 2005, Thompson served as executive vice president and director of wealth management at City National Bank in Beverly Hills, Calif. and held senior executive positions with U.S. Trust Company of New York, U.S. Bancorp, CitiCorp and Wells Fargo Bank, where she was responsible for private banking. 

Thompson is chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Theatre and serves as a member of the University of San Diego’s Board of Trustees.  She is also on the boards of the Hawaiian Humane Society, Child and Family Services in Honolulu, and is a member of the Planned Giving Committee of the Aloha United Way. 

Kathy Fujihara-Chong has been promoted to senior executive vice president and manager of the Business Banking Division from executive vice president.  She also becomes a member of the bank’s Managing Committee.  She will continue to oversee the Business Banking Division, where she is responsible for the management of the Business Banking Centers throughout the state of Hawaii in addition to product development, loan approval and portfolio management.  The division also oversees merchant services and Bank of Hawaii Insurance Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Bank of Hawaii.

She joined the bank in 1981 as manager in the Controller’s Department.  Since then she has held management positions in the Hawaii market branches, middle market and corporate lending areas, product management and the bank’s loan center. 

She is currently a director of the SBA Advisory Board in Hawaii, Consumer Bankers Association Small Business Committee and Ballet Hawaii.  She has served in a leadership role on several boards of community and professional organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii, Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Aloha United Way Small Business Committee and Waikiki Community Center. 

Thomas “Tom” J. Koide has been promoted to senior executive vice president and manager of Hawaii Branch Division from executive vice president.  He also joins the bank’s Managing Committee and will oversee retail distribution channels including the bank’s Hawaii branches, ATM network and Call Center.   

Koide joined the bank in 1974 as a management trainee and has held a variety of management positions including West Oahu regional manager and Pearlridge district manager.  He also served as branch manager for several locations including Kapahulu, Keeaumoku and Ala Moana.   

He is currently a board member of the John A. Burns Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee. 

Additionally, Senior Executive Vice President Wayne Hamano has added the title of Chief Commercial Officer.  Executive Vice President Stephanie Saito has added the title of Deputy Chief Commercial Officer.  She will report to Hamano.

Thompson, Fujihara-Chong, Hamano and Koide will report to Ho.
