Health Check: Helping Businesses Join the Fight Against COVID-19

As local businesses work to survive the many hardships posed by COVID-19, one of the biggest challenges has been figuring out how to safely reopen without endangering customers, employees or the community. It can be difficult to know where to get started, and the logistics of creating a screening program for employees can seem out of reach, especially for smaller businesses.

Health Check aims to help solve that problem. Health Check is a free mobile app, which Bank of Hawaii uses internally for its own employees, that makes COVID-19 screening fast and easy. In just three yes-or-no questions, the app lets employees self-report on whether they’re experiencing symptoms or have come into contact with anyone confirmed or potentially positive for COVID-19.

At Bank of Hawaii, every employee working on location is asked to complete the self-assessment before each shift, show it to the attendant when they arrive and get their temperature checked. With the app, the process is streamlined and fast, eliminating bottlenecks and letting everyone reap the benefits of wide-spread screening with minimal hassle.

Downloading and using the app is simple:

  • Visit the Apple App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play store for Android devices to download the app.
  • Before coming to work, ask employees to answer the three simple questions.
  • When they arrive, have a dedicated attendant check the results and take the employee’s temperature.

Health Check was developed by Bank of Hawaii internally, and is available for free in the App Store and Google Play Store, for devices running iOS 8 or later and Android 5.0 or later.
