Am I eligible to open an account online?

To open the account online, you and the joint owner (if applicable) must be at least 18 years of age or older, and be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.

Already an e-Bankoh customer?

e-Bankoh customers can quickly open an account online while signed onto e-Bankoh.

Why are these security questions necessary for online account opening?

Answering these additional security questions allows us to confirm your identity. This additional layer of security helps protect our customers against identity theft.

What is a joint account?

A joint account is a form of ownership. Each owner shares in the ownership of the account and either party has the authority to make withdrawals. For accounts opened online, the account may be set up for either one or two owners.

Why is an e-mail address needed?

Your e-mail address is used to send you notifications.

Why is a Social Security number needed?

The Social Security number is used to help confirm your identity.

What is backup withholding?

Backup withholding is a process by which the Internal Revenue (IRS) ensures that applicable federal income taxes are paid on certain types of income received by a taxpayer. In the enrollment process, answer “Yes” to the question under “Backup Withholding” if the IRS has notified you that you are subject to backup withholding. For more information, please refer to the instructions to IRS Form W-9, Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification, available on the IRS web site at http://www.irs.gov/.

Am I able to order checks?

Yes, the option to order checks is available during the opening process. You should receive an order of 50 wallet-style personalized checks and 10 deposit slips within 2 weeks. The cost, which is currently $12.50 (plus applicable sales tax), is automatically deducted from your checking account. Price is subject to change without notice.

How long will it take to complete the application?

The process will take approximately 10 minutes provided you have available your Social Security number, Driver’s License number, date of birth, home address, employment information, and account information from your existing financial institution. If you unable to complete the application for any reason, you can apply again later, however, your information is not saved and the process will begin anew.

I am an existing Bank of Hawaii customer. Will I need to provide the requested customer information?

Yes. To open your account online, we require your Social Security number, Driver’s license number, date of birth, home address, and employment information.

How do I fund my account?

Your initial deposit is transferred electronically from either your existing account at Bank of Hawaii or your account at another financial institution. The amount of your initial deposit may not exceed $10,000. The option to fund via credit card is not available for security reasons. Please see below for details on making future deposits.

How can I make future deposits to my account?

Deposits to your account may be made via any Bank of Hawaii branch ATM, in the mail, or in person at any of Bank of Hawaii’s convenient branch locations. As an e-Bankoh customer you can use an existing account you own at another financial institution to transfer money to and from your new account.

How soon after I open an account will I receive my Bank of Hawaii Visa® CheckCard or Bankoh BankCard (ATM card)?

If you requested a card, you will receive your card and Personal Identification Number (PIN) separately within 7 to 10 business days.

What happens if I am unable to complete the application process?

If you are unable to complete the application process even with the required information, please contact Customer Support at 1-888-643-3888 and press 83 once you hear the main menu.

How is my application secured?

Bank of Hawaii secures your application using 128-bit SSL encryption. Your encrypted information sent over the internet can only be decoded by Bank of Hawaii.

How do I know my money is secure?

Deposits at Bank of Hawaii are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). FDIC provides insurance coverage for the following categories:

  • Single Accounts (owned by one person) $250,000 per owner
  • Joint Accounts (two or more persons) $250,000 per co-owner
  • IRAs and certain other retirement accounts $250,000 per owner
  • Trust Accounts $250,000 per owner per beneficiary subject to specific limitations and requirements
  • Corporation, Partnership and Unincorporated Association Accounts $250,000 per corporation, partnership or unincorporated association
  • Government Accounts $250,000 per official custodian

Where do I find my last statement balance?

The ending balance on your last statement for this account. If you don’t know or have your last statement balance, please call us directly at 1-888-643-3888. If this is a new account and you have not received your first statement, enter "0".

How do I find my loan account information?

Loan Account Information includes the Loan Account number and Last Payment Amount.

Your Loan Account number is displayed on the top right hand side of your loan statement.

What is internal transfer?

This option allows you to transfer money from an existing account you own at Bank of Hawaii. Deposit Account balance information may not reflect recent transactions and may include funds that are not available for immediate withdrawal, including any holds placed on your account.

What is external transfer?

This option allows you to transfer money from an existing account you own at another financial institution.
